A Quality Loss which refers to the events when defective parts are produced from startup until the stable production is completed. This loss can also be called Startup Rejects since most of the defective parts are produced just after the equipment startup.
Like Process Defects, the parts can be scrapped or the ones that can be reworked but this loss can occur after any equipment startup. The major reasons for Reduced Yield are suboptimal changeovers, incorrect settings when a new part is run, equipment that needs warmup cycles, or equipment that inherently creates waste after startup, etc.
